A2 Level ICT WGS

13.5 Management of Change

This section follows the idea that the introduction or development of an information system will result in change; which must be managed. Factors to consider in the management of change could include re-skilling, attitude, organisational structure, employment pattern and conditions, and internal procedures. There is a powerpoint summary to follow as an introduction, and summary notes from North Chadderton. It is not a difficult section and students will be able to identify with much of this content.

13.4 Information and Data

Using any resources you have available: notes and text books, the worksheet on Information and Data should be completed by the start of next week. Please ensure that all previous work is up to date. There will be a test on Section 13.4 Information and Data next Thursday 23rd October – it will not be an essay test. Revise for this please.

Weel 7: 13.4 Information and Data

Before we move on to looking at ‘Data’, we’ll finish the section on ‘Information’ by looking at ‘Presentation’. In this we’ll look at:

  •  Intended Audience
  • Appropriate means or methods of presentation, including computer printouts,
presentation graphics, DTP, videoconferencing, graphs and charts and written presentation.

Follow this link on statistical data presentation tools which gives sound ideas as to when certain charts and graphs could be used. We’re then going to review the section on ‘Data‘ from the teach_ict website. A set of notes on this topic is available here.

13.4 Information and Data

Today I’d like students to save a copy of the notes from the Fatmax website which I referred to earlier. Using the Yull & Rogers textbook, I’d like you to add the table on Page 44 (7. Form) to the notes on “Characteristics of Information – Form”.  Then, using pages 46 and 47, add detail to “Internal and External Information” notes;

  • The type of Information captured by different departments.
  • The spider diagram showing external Information sources.
  • The influence these sources have on the way the organisation functions.

See if you can answer the ‘Test your knowledge’ and ‘Activity’ sections on pages 45 and47.

ICT4 13.1 to 13.3 Test Today

Here is your test sheet. I suggest you hand write it. You will have to do so in January, so you may as well get in the practice. You must do a plan of what you are going to write before you do so. I have no problem with you using any resources on the blog.

Test Revision

First of all, “mea maxima culpa”, (look it up!) I gave you a worksheet to complete with sections from 13.5 – Management of Change. As you know, we haven’t got there yet. So apologies for any stress caused. I have put the Mark Scheme on this page.

Today I’m adding a worksheet with a mark scheme, with a variety of past exam questions (those I can easily get my hands on) on sections 13.1 to 13.3. Review them well. However, consider that your test could come in the form of an essay as well.

Week 6: 13.4 Information and Data

This week we’ll be looking at the topic of Information. We need to look to

  • Understand management information needs: the concept of relevance and methods of interpretation.
  • Understand that information has many characteristics and can be classified in many ways.
  • Discuss the value of information in aiding the decision making process.
  • Understand the difference between internal and external information requirements.
  • Describe the characteristics of good information and delivery.
  • Describe the advantages and characteristics of good information within an applications context.

A decent set of notes can be found here, taken from the Fatmax website. Summarise, or add to them as you see fit.

Test next week, Thursday 9.10.

There will be a test next week covering the sections we’ve completed this far. Students should use the Powerpoint Summaries on this page as an indication of what has to be studied. They should also complete the worksheet by Tuesday 7th October.
